Encyclopedia of Clinical Neuropsychology Offers New Insights into Treatment of Neuropsychological Disorders

This second edition, co-edited by Dr. John DeLuca, details the latest approaches to cognitive rehabilitative care for individuals with neuropsychological disorders

East Hanover, NJ – November 1, 2018 – John DeLuca, PhD, a clinical neuropsychologist and Senior Vice President of Research and Training at Kessler Foundationis the co-chief editor of the new 2nd edition “Encyclopedia of Clinical Neuropsychology”.  Published by Springer, it is the first major encyclopedia of adult and pediatric neuropsychological disorders. The recently released 2nd edition includes numerous new entries and extensive updates, and is available in print and eBook.

Clinical neuropsychology is an evolving specialty that focuses on neurobehavioral problems related to acquired or developmental disorders of the nervous system. The types of deficits vary and include such conditions as traumatic brain injury (TBI), stroke, brain tumors, epilepsy and non-epileptic seizure disorders, multiple sclerosis (MS) and other neurodegenerative diseases, HIV- and AIDS-related disorders, and dementia. Unlike most neuropsychology reference books, which focus solely on assessment and diagnosis, this encyclopedia spans the diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of people with neuropsychological disorders.

“In the past decade, there has been a rapid expansion in programs that provide rehabilitation, treatment, and treatment planning services for individuals with neuropsychological deficits,” stated Dr. DeLuca. “Today, researchers, students, clinicians, patients and caretakers recognize that evaluation and diagnosis are only the beginning of the treatment and recovery process,” he noted. “With advances in neuroimaging, we now have a window into the brain. We are documenting how interventions affect brain activity and improve cognitive processes,” he continued, “which provides the evidence base needed to rapidly translate research findings into clinical care. This volume is meant as resource for professionals seeking the latest information on rehabilitation and treatment options for people with neuropsychological disorders in both the clinical and community settings.”
