Home-based Arm & Hand Exercise in Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI)

The purpose of this study is to examine whether a home-based arm & hand exercise program improves functions of the upper limb in people with TBI.


Approximately 2 months. Participants will complete 1-2 screening sessions at Kessler Foundation in West Orange, NJ. Eligible participants will complete 3 weeks of daily home-based arm and hand exercise. Arm function is evaluated before, immediately after, and one month after the last session. 

Inclusion Criteria
  • Individuals aged 20-60.
  • Diagnosed with moderate-severe TBI which resulted in one upper limb (including arm, forearm, hand, shoulder, elbow, and wrist) being weaker than the other. 

Participants receive reimbursement of travel expenses for the period of participation in this study. The reimbursement is 0.54 cents per mile, plus tolls.
