Effects of Epidural Stimulation in People with Acute Spinal Cord Injury

This study evaluates the effects of epidural stimulation of the spinal cord and task-specific training on motor control, cardiovascular and respiratory functions, bowel, bladder, and sexual function in individuals with spinal cord injury.

Participation lasts 2 years

Inclusion Criteria
  • 18 years or older 
  • Have a spinal cord injury between C6 and T10 that is not getting worse 
  • At least 1 year post injury and in stable condition 
  • Unable to voluntarily move legs at the hip, knee and ankle joints 
  • Unable to stand independently 
  • Not Currently taking anti-spasticity medication 
  • Have not received Botox injections in the last 6 months 
  • Have bladder dysfunction as a result of spinal cord injury
