2011-03-25 14:26:06 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

With new naming structure, Kessler Foundation continues to improve the lives of people living with disabilities

August 4, 2009 - December 1, 2008 - West Orange, NJ - One of the largest non-profits supporting people with physical disabilities, Henry H. Kessler Foundation, announced today the organization's new name - Kessler Foundation. The Foundation is also changing the names of its two main divisions to Kessler Foundation Research Center and Kessler Foundation Program Center. Since August 2003, Kessler Foundation, a non-profit, has been operating as a separate legal entity from Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation (KIR), although both were founded by Dr. Henry H. Kessler. KIR is a for-profit hospital owned by Select Medical Corporation.

"Kessler Foundation Research Center is advancing the quality of life for people with disabilities through its advanced clinical research in brain and spinal cord injury, stroke recovery, multiple sclerosis, and other neurological and musculoskeletal conditions. The grants awarded by Kessler Foundation Program Center provide people with physical disabilities in New Jersey opportunities for employment through job training, networking and job creation", stated Rodger DeRose, Kessler Foundation's president and CEO. "We are honored by the legacy of Dr. Henry H. Kessler and look to continue building on his significant contributions for the benefit of patients worldwide."

Kessler Foundation advances cutting-edge research and technology for people with physical disabilities through Kessler Foundation Research Center. Formerly named Kessler Medical Rehabilitation Research and Education Corporation, or KMRREC, Kessler Foundation Research Center is funded through Kessler Foundation. In addition, Kessler Foundation Research Center, which has nationally recognized Centers of Excellence for programs in traumatic brain and spinal cord injury, receives government funding through agencies such as the National Institutes of Health and National Institute on Disability Rehabilitation Research. Kessler Foundation Research Center and KIR collaborate to develop the best possible ways to help patients overcome their physical disabilities.

Kessler Foundation's grant and education programs are combined under the umbrella of Kessler Foundation Program Center. Kessler Foundation Program Center supports programs through grants that help improve the quality of life of individuals with physical disabilities. Due to the historically low employment among people with physical disabilities, Kessler Foundation Program Center concentrates its external grant allocation on increasing the employment of people with physical disabilities, particularly through its "Transition to Work" program. test
