Kessler Foundation’s Stroll ‘N Roll Features Special Guests, Innovative Technology and Competition

WEST ORANGE/NEWARK, N.J.—Kessler Foundation celebrates its 10th Annual Stroll ‘N Roll (and Run!) on Sunday, October 16 at Branch Brook Park in Newark, N.J.

Rutgers football player Eric LeGrand, singer Pras Michel from the Fugees, Tony Award Winner John Larroquette, actor Daryl “Chill” Mitchell and state leaders will attend.

Guests will glimpse the future via live demonstrations of eLEGS—a wearable, robotic, battery-powered exoskeleton that enables individuals with paralysis to stand and walk. Amanda Boxtel, an eLEGS ambassador paralyzed since 1992, will demonstrate the device, which is being tested at Kessler Foundation. Made by Berkeley Bionics, eLEGS is now used in rehabilitation; it is targeted for home and community use in 2013.

Additions to Stroll ‘N Roll’s traditional 5K include USATF-certified 8K and 5K courses for runners and wheelchair athletes and a Fun Run for kids. Sample local restaurant fare at the “Taste of Essex” food tasting, watch a Kessler softball game, and buy raffle tickets for a trip to Barbados. Enjoy kid-friendly activities, music from WPLJ and WDHA, and the Hawkettes minor league dance team.

All proceeds go to Kessler’s programs for people with disabilities. Race registration opens at 8 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. for strollers and rollers.
