Scientist speaking to staff
Healthy individuals clearly learn from feedback given both immediately and after a delay. Our studies indicate that individuals with traumatic brain injury learn more effectively from delayed feedback.

Areas of Focus

Ekaterina Dobryakova, PhD, directs the Neuromotivation and Network Integrity Laboratory within Kessler Foundation's Center for Traumatic Brain Injury Research, where she is assistant director of Neuroscience Research. The Lab uses functional magnetic resonance imaging to examine differences in brain activity related to feedback-based learning, depression, and cognitive fatigue in individuals with traumatic brain injury, multiple sclerosis, and Parkinson’s disease. The research focuses on the frontostriatal network, which is involved in motor, cognitive, and emotional functions. This network has been associated with fatigue, a common symptom of TBI, and with goal achievement, which has been shown to reduce fatigue in healthy individuals.
