Effects of Using a Robotic Exoskeleton Early Post-Stroke

This study assesses whether using a wearable device, called the robotic exoskeleton, can be helpful in improving recovery of walking in adults who have recently had a stroke.

40 visits over 6 months (1-2 hours each).

Inclusion Criteria
  • Currently receiving inpatient care at Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation for a stroke that occurred less than 4 weeks ago 
  • 21-80 years of age 
  • Medically able to stand for up to 30 minutes 
  • Have weakness on one side of the body 
  • Have normal motion of arms and legs for walking with the Robotic Exoskeleton 
  • Have enough upper body strength to balance using a walker while wearing the exoskeleton 
  • Able to physically fit into the exoskeleton device, as determined by study staff 
  • Have stable blood pressure
