Research Interests

Dr. Costa aims first to clarify the mechanisms that drive cognitive and motor deficits in MS and SCI. This foundational work supports her longer-term goal: advancing rehabilitation strategies that more effectively address these impairments and improving early identification of individuals at heightened risk. Her goal is to contribute significantly to the treatment and early intervention of cognitive deficits to promote quality of life among those who suffer from MS and other neurological conditions. Her research has been funded by the Mary Switzer Merit Fellowship Award from the National Institute on Disability Independent Living and Rehabilitation Research, the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, and the State of New Jersey Commission on Spinal Cord Research.
