Hashim Garrett, LMSW, serves as a research assistant in the Center for Spinal Cord Injury Research at Kessler Foundation. He supports a variety of research initiatives, including the Wheelchair Repair Study, where he assists with participant recruitment, enrollment, and retrospective interviews. 

In addition to his research responsibilities, Mr. Garrett serves as an SCI Navigator, providing information, support, and resources to individuals living with spinal cord injury and their families. His work is centered on helping individuals access services, address challenges, and improve their quality of life throughout the rehabilitation and community reintegration process.

Mr. Garrett earned a Master’s of Social Work degree with a concentration in Clinical Social Work and Mental Health from New York University’s Silver School of Social Work and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Work from Rutgers University. 

Combined with his lived experience as a survivor of an L3 spinal cord injury sustained in 1990, he brings both professional and personal insight to his work in research, advocacy, and community support for individuals with spinal cord injury.
