This fully remote study explores how access to public transportation impacts the lives of people with spinal cord injury. This information will be used to improve existing strategies to meet the needs of public transportation users living with disabilities.

Duration

Participation lasts approximately 7-8 weeks.

Participants will be asked to: 

  • Complete an online survey
  • Complete a brief survey on their personal smartphone each time they use public transportation over the course of 4 weeks
  • Discuss their public transportation experiences in an interview conducted via Zoom with a study team member.
Inclusion Criteria
  • Have a nonprogressive nervous system impairment secondary to a spinal cord injury (i.e., caused by an external event, health event, or disease)
  • Experience chronic mobility impairment from permanent, spinal cord injury-related paralysis
  • 18 years of age or older
  • Community-living for at least one year at the time of enrollment
  • Living in New Jersey at the time of enrollment
  • Proficient in verbal and written English
  • Use a smartphone (either iOS or Android)
  • Use a mode of transportation other than a private vehicle as a primary mode of transportation
  • Use primary mode of transportation at least three days in a typical week
