Required Training in Research Protections

Research staff at Kessler Foundation are required to complete training in human research protections. Please see instructions below for completing training through the CITI Program. If You Have Already Taken the CITI Basic Course at Another Institution

You may not need to retake the Basic Course if you completed the CITI education within the past three years. However, the Foundation needs to verify that the CITI modules you have completed meet our human subjects protection education requirement. To do this, you must change your affiliation to include Kessler Foundation.

  • Return to the “My Courses” page from top menu
  • Select “Add Affiliation with Another Institution”
  • Question 1: Select “Clinical Researcher”
  • Question 2: Select “Clinical Researcher” or “Not at This Time”
  • Question 3: Select “Not at This Time”
Completing the Course
  • To begin the course, click on “My Courses” on the top menu to access the required modules and associated quizzes
  • Each module of the required Basic Course takes approximately 20 – 25 minutes to complete
  • When returning to the CITI website, select “Log In” and proceed to the “My Courses” link to access modules and quizzes again
  • You may log in as many times as necessary. If you want to improve your score on an individual module, you may repeat any quiz, any number of times
  • However, you may only print a “Course Completion Report” after all required modules are completed
  • “My Records” page will indicate which modules you have completed and which modules you still need to complete to satisfy the Kessler Foundation education requirement
  • The minimum passing aggregate score is 80 percent. A running tally is compiled in “My Records”
Printing a Completion Report
  • Print or download a “Course Completion Report” as evidence that you have met Kessler Foundation’s educational requirement
  • Maintain a copy of the report for your records
  • A copy will be sent automatically and electronically to your Kessler Foundation campus CITI education administrators
  • You may also return to the CITI site in the future to obtain a copy of your completion report to include with your submissions to the IRB, as needed
Refresher Requirements
  • Kessler Foundation requires that once you have completed a Basic Course, you must complete the CITI Refresher Course every three (3) years
  • You will receive an automatic reminder from CITI approximately 90 days prior to your three-year anniversary date
    • Reminders can sometimes be blocked by email systems, so we recommend creating your own calendar reminder or checking the CITI site to verify your certification status
