Location: East Hanover, New Jersey
Working under the direction of the Controller and the Grants Manager, the Staff Accountant’s primary focus will be on planning, organizing, and working with colleagues in areas of payroll, investments, accounts payable, purchasing, accounts receivable, and grant accounting, in support of the organization’s financial, strategic, and operational goals.
Responsibilities include
- Perform accounting and financial functions; assist in preparing financial reports
- Work collaboratively with management to provide fiscal and other support of strategic agenda
- Maintain investment accounts; prepare monthly journal entries and summaries of significant activity within investment accounts
- Prepare documents and reports for external audits of financial results and 401(k) plan; work with colleagues to evaluate the 401(k) plan
- Prepare monthly summary of balances and performance compared to relevant benchmarks, working with investment manager
- Work with investment manager, investment custodian, and corporate bank to coordinate and facilitate fund transfers.
- Manage daily operations and biweekly processing of payroll transactions, including payroll journal entries; ensure submission of payroll contributions to 401(k) plan provider
- Reconcile donations, revenue, and pledges monthly
- Prepare annual distribution of Form 1099s
- Review budgets for adherence to grant requirements
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
- Certification as a Certified Public Accountant
- At least five years of related not-for-profit experience
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel
Preferred qualifications
- MBA degree
- Experience in NetSuite software
