Rehab of Stroke Reading Deficits Using fMRI Neurofeedback

The purpose of this study is to investigate how reading can be improved after a left-brain stroke. The findings of this study may help to develop new methods for diagnosis and treatment of reading problems after stroke.

Duration

2 testing sessions (120-180 minutes per visit), 10 homework sessions (30 minutes per visit), and 3 fMRI scans, 1 per week for 3 weeks (90 minutes per visit).

Inclusion Criteria

For stroke survivors:

  • Right-handed (before stroke)
  • Fluent & literate in English (before stroke)
  • 18-80 years of age
  • Stroke within the last 10 weeks
  • Have reading deficits, as defined by a test

For healthy controls:

  • No history of strokes
  • Right-handed
  • Fluent & literate in English
  • 18-80 years of age
Compensation

Participants will receive up to $225 ($75 per scan).
