Informing Identification of Neuropathic Pain Phenotypes in People with SCI

This proposed study will provide data needed to design, fund, and conduct large-scale, multi-center studies that are needed to establish "neuropathic pain phenotypes," which are the different types of nerve pain people with SCI experience after injury.

The study will take approximately 12 months to complete. It involves 3 visits, which will occur at one, six, and twelve months after your spinal cord injury. Each visit will take approximately 1.5-2 hours.  

Inclusion Criteria

  • Individuals diagnosed with traumatic SCI.
  • At least 18 years of age.
  • Admitted to Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation (KIR) for inpatient rehabilitation.
  • Able to travel to KIR for follow-up visits during the first year after injury.
Compensation

Participants receive up to $600 for taking part in this study according to the following schedule: $100 for the 1 and 6 month follow-ups, $150 for the 12-month follow-up and an additional $100 for completing all visits. Participants are also reimbursed up to $150 for any travel costs.
