Research Engineer

Kessler Foundation is seeking an engineer to participate in the design and management of research equipment and analyses of data for projects in human movement, including signal analysis and interpretation of data for outside funding. The engineer will work in the Center for Mobility Rehabilitation Research and the Center for Spinal Stimulation in West Orange, NJ as part of a team including research scientists, physicians, physical therapists, study coordinator, engineers, and research assistants.
 

Responsibilities may include

•    Provide assistance to other engineers and research staff.
•    Schedule participants for testing and training.
•    Organize and update testing and training manuals and documents; manage laboratory equipment.
•    Implement data-acquisition system (kinematic, force, EMG, etc.).
•    Develop software for analysis using signal-processing techniques.
•    Assist in data collection for clinical and IRB-approved research studies; oversee data processing and interpretation.
•    Design, build, and maintain hardware devices and supplies for projects.
•    Coordinate software upkeep and troubleshooting.
•    Create electronic databases for intervention tracking of variables.
•    Develop and maintain data-storage routines according to standards.
•    Develop and implement new research initiatives/projects.
 

Qualifications

•    Master's degree in biomedical engineering.
•    At least three years of related experience.
•    Experience in computer, electronic, and electromechanical development.
•    Demonstrated proficiency in computer skills, including statistical analysis and data management, and expertise with Novell and Windows systems.
 

Preferred qualifications

•    Strong programming skills in MATLAB, C, C++, and Labview.
•    Experience with motion-capture data-collection routines (calibration, data processing, etc.).
•    Familiarity with Instrumentation, Programmable Multi-Axis Controller (PMAC) programming and control.
•    Experience in electrical engineering.
•    Experience with electromyography (EMG) procedures and analysis.
