Kessler Foundation’s Dr. DeLuca Accepts INS Benton Mid-Career Award for Cognitive Research

 

WEST ORANGE, N.J.—JULY 16, 2015—John DeLuca, Ph.D., senior vice president for Research and Training at Kessler Foundation, received the International Neuropsychological Society (INS) Benton Mid-Career Award for his influential research in cognitive rehabilitation. He received the award during the INS Awards Ceremony on July 1st in Sydney, Australia, where he delivered his invited presentation, “Cognitive Rehabilitation in Multiple Sclerosis.”

“I’m honored to be recognized by the INS with this award,” said Dr. DeLuca. “Every day, my colleagues and I strive to make discoveries that improve the quality of life of individuals with cognitive deficits. With effective interventions, individuals are able to care for their families, participate in their communities and stay in the workforce. I look forward to exploring new avenues of research for many years to come.”

The INS Benton Mid-Career Award recognizes individuals who are 11 to 24 years post completion of their professional training who have made a substantive independent contribution to research in the area of brain-behavior relationships. The INS Awards Committee analyzes the impact of the published research of each nominee. 

Dr. DeLuca studies disorders of memory and information processing in multiple sclerosis, traumatic brain injury, chronic fatigue syndrome and Gulf War Illness. He is in the forefront of the exploration of cognitive processes using advanced neuroimaging and in the development of research-based techniques to improve cognitive impairment. He has received numerous academic and professional awards and recognitions, including the Rodger G. Barker Distinguished Research Award, Early Career Awards from the American Psychological Association and the National Academy of Neuropsychology, the Medical Excellence Award from National MS Society, and the Distinguished Researcher Award from the New Jersey Psychological Association.    

Dr. DeLuca has authored more than 250 publications and is the editor of numerous books, including the Encyclopedia of Clinical Neuropsychology. He has obtained more than $30 million in grant funding for research and training from government agencies, professional societies and foundations. Dr. DeLuca is a world renowned public speaker and lecturer and his collaborative work in cognitive rehabilitation extends to Italy, France, Spain, and China. 

Dr. DeLuca is a professor in the Departments of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation and Neurology & Neurosciences at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School and a scientific advisor to William Paterson University. He is board certified in Rehabilitation Psychology by the American Board of Professional Psychology and is a Fellow of the American Psychological Association and the National Academy of Neuropsychology.
