Research Interests

Dr. Arora’s research focuses on functional and structural connectivity in autistic adolescents. Specifically, she works with understanding alternative perspectives and domain-general and domain-specific processing of a specific cognitive mechanism known as theory of mind (ToM). Various neurodevelopmental disorders, such as autism spectrum disorder (ASD), attention deficit hyperactivity, developmental language, and schizophrenia, as well as acquired disorders of the right brain and traumatic brain injury impair ToM.

Dr. Arora investigates patterns of meta-cognitive neural processing in typical- and autistic-developing adolescents. She is developing an eye-tracking paradigm to understand traits contributing to specific deficits affecting autistic individuals. The overarching goals of her projects will help advance understanding of social and affective deficits that neurally manifest in adolescents with ASD. Her research will facilitate targeted training of the ASD population based on the severity of their autistic symptoms and help establish and validate neural biomarkers that are sensitive to interventions and treatments.
