The Outcomes and Assessment Research Laboratory is led by Trevor Dyson-Hudson, M.D., Director of Spinal Cord Injury & Outcomes and Assessment Research and includes Dr. Amanda Botticello, Ms. Rachel Byrne, and Ms. Nicolette Cobbold. This group conducts research related to disability and long-term outcomes from traumatic injury. The Outcomes and Assessment Laboratory researchers actively collaborate across the Kessler Foundation Research Center and are currently involved in projects with the Spinal Cord Injury and Stroke Research Labs as well as the Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation. Currently, Dr. Amanda Botticello is conducting a study investigating whether individuals with spinal cord injury who live in disadvantaged environments are at increased risk for functional decline and poor health. This project uses geodata to combine longitudinal outcomes data from the Spinal Cord Injury Model Systems program (SCIMS) with Census data and other national surveys. The laboratory also has past experience in developing and validating new measures of cognitive and neuropsychological functioning and multisite collaborative projects to improve the measurement of Health-Related Quality of Life in diverse patient populations.
Researchers and collaborators in the Outcomes and Assessment Research Laboratory are funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH; National Center on Medical Rehabilitation Research/NCMRR and National Institute on Neurological Disorders and Stroke/NINDS), the National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research (NIDRR), and the Department of Veteran’s Affairs Rehabilitation Research and Development Program (RR&D).
