Amanda L. Botticello, Ph.D., MPH is a Research Scientist in the Outcomes & Assessment Laboratory at Kessler Foundation Research Center.  Dr. Botticello received her MPH in 2000 and Ph.D. in 2005 from the University of California, Los Angeles School of Public Health.  She received the award for best dissertation from the Sociology of Mental Health Section of the American Sociological Association in 2006.  She completed postdoctoral training in mental health and aging at the Institute for Health, Health Care Policy, and Aging Research at Rutgers University in 2007. Dr. Botticello’s work investigates community effects on health outcomes following traumatic injury, health disparities, and the role of social factors in the disabling process using social epidemiological research methods.  Her research uses multilevel and longitudinal statistical techniques to analyze information from large clinical samples, community-based probability samples, and administrative databases. She currently has a K99 career development award from the NIH/Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health & Human Development to examine the role of environmental predictors in readjustment after spinal cord injury and is a co-investigator in the Northern New Jersey Spinal Cord Injury Model Systems of Care, one of fourteen centers funded by the National Institute for Disability and Rehabilitation Research to conduct demonstration projects and longitudinal follow-up for persons with Spinal Cord Injury.  Dr. Botticello collaborates with researchers in the Spinal Cord Injury, Stroke, and Neuroscience laboratories and lectures in the Kessler Foundation Postdoctoral Training Program and Residency Training Program at University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.   Dr. Botticello has published in the Archives of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, the Journal of Research on Adolescence, Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health, the American Journal of Epidemiology, Social Science and Medicine, and the Journal of Health and Social Behavior.  She is a member of the American Public Health Association (APHA), the American Sociological Association, the Population Association of America (PAA) and the Academy of Spinal Cord Injury Professionals (ASCIPro).
